Lighten and eliminate dark spots and blemishes

What is IPL?

Intense pulsed light, commonly known as IPL, is a treatment in which skin blemishes such as brown spots, freckles, tiny veins, rosacea, and more are eliminated or greatly reduced through the concentration of heat and light. Cutera Limelight IPL treatments involve running a wand over the patient’s skin to deliver heat that penetrates deeply to target areas of discoloration. This technique allows for a boost in new collagen and elastin production, leaving you with reduced or eliminated flaws and freshly rejuvenated skin.

A Non-Ablative Solution

What are the benefits of IPL?

Cutera Limelight IPL treatments are FDA-approved for getting rid of vascular lesions. Cutera Limelight IPL is also effective for addressing a variety of other causes of discoloration, including rosacea, sun spots, and other types of dark marks. Additionally, IPL rejuvenates the skin and improves overall tone. This treatment requires almost no downtime and causes minimal discomfort.

Say goodbye to spots

Am I a good candidate for IPL?

Adults who struggle with rosacea, sun damage, freckles, vascular lesions, small visible veins, broken capillaries, and even some fine lines are good candidates for IPL. Individuals who are pregnant, breastfeeding, who have recently tanned or have naturally dark skin, or who have any underlying health issues should not receive IPL treatments. You can schedule a consultation with us or visit your primary care doctor in order to find an alternative treatment that is safe for you and your body.

Light your way to a more even skin tone

Your IPL Procedure

Before your procedure, your skin will be thoroughly cleaned, and you will be given protective goggles to wear to shield your eyes from any possible damage. A wand-like device will then be run over the treatment area. As the wand passes over the skin, it produces intense pulses of light. This light will heat up and significantly lessen the appearance of the spots on the skin you are being treated for.

It’s time to let your
dark marks go

IPL Recovery

You may return to your daily routine immediately. After your treatment, your skin will appear as if you have had a sunburn. This redness will go away completely in a few hours. Your dark spots will appear darker over the following few days. About a week after your treatment, these darkened spots will become flakey and fall off. This process won’t hurt, but be sure not to pick at the skin, or you can risk causing damage. You should avoid direct sunlight, saunas, hot tubs, and other heavy sources of heat for the first day or two after your treatment to prevent prolonged redness or burning. Since this treatment targets underneath the first layer of skin, you may apply makeup as normal right after your treatment.

A Clean, Fresh Appearance

IPL Results

You will see your full results in about three weeks once your skin is completely healed. Between the boost in collagen production and the reduction of dark spots, rosacea, small veins, and other discolorations, your skin will look smoother, cleaner, and rejuvenated. Some patients experience their desired results after one treatment. However, most patients will schedule two or three appointments to ensure that as many blemishes are reduced or eliminated as possible.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Frequently Asked Questions

Pain is generally minimal, but treatments can be a little uncomfortable. Patients compare the feeling to a rubber band being snapped against the skin. If at any point your treatment becomes too uncomfortable, let your licensed medical aesthetic provider know right away.

Adverse side effects are uncommon with this treatment, as we take every precaution to ensure a safe procedure that yields optimal results. Some possible but unlikely risks include burns, blisters, scars, and hyperpigmentation.

Insurance does not cover elective cosmetic treatments. Since every patient’s treatment plan is unique, it is difficult to provide a blanket price for IPL. We can give you an accurate price range and answer any questions about payment during your consultation.
